A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE HIGHER EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO SUPPORT EFFORTS OF THE NEW MEXICO CHAPTER OF BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS OF AMERICA TO BE RECOGNIZED AT THE POST-SECONDARY LEVEL.

     WHEREAS, business professionals of America is a national student organization for students preparing for careers in business, with local chapters in middle school and secondary and post-secondary educational institutions across North America; and

     WHEREAS, the mission of business professionals of America is to contribute to the preparation of a world-class work force through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills; and

     WHEREAS, there are almost seven hundred members of the New Mexico chapter of business professionals of America; and

     WHEREAS, career and technical student organizations such as business professionals of America help students prepare for post-secondary education and entry into the work force; and

     WHEREAS, both the higher education department and the public education department support students in career and technical education programs; and

     WHEREAS, there are no established chapters of business professionals of America located at New Mexico's post-secondary educational institutions; and

     WHEREAS, the implementation of chapters of business professionals of America at New Mexico post-secondary educational institutions would assist with training well-prepared, career-oriented, skilled, certified and motivated future state and national work force members;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the secretary of higher education be requested to support efforts of the New Mexico chapter of business professionals of America to be recognized at the post-secondary level; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of higher education.
