A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING AND HONORING CROSSROADS FOR WOMEN FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY.

 

     WHEREAS, Crossroads for Women provides comprehensive, integrated services to support women who are working to break the cycle of homelessness and incarceration; and

     WHEREAS, the wrap-around support services provided by Crossroads for Women include intensive case management, therapeutic day programs, counseling, parenting assistance, vocational services and community activities; and

     WHEREAS, Crossroads for Women, in conjunction with its sister program, Maya's Place, provides transitional housing for forty-two women seeking to achieve healthy, stable and self-sufficient lives in the community for themselves and their children; and

     WHEREAS, there is a critical shortage of community-based transitional residential programs in New Mexico, and Crossroads for Women should be recognized for its role in filling this need and for its outstanding service to the community; and

     WHEREAS, representatives of Crossroads for Women have attended nearly every meeting of the interim criminal justice reform subcommittee to advocate for programs and services for incarcerated women and women reintegrating into the community following incarceration; and

     WHEREAS, the tireless efforts of representatives of Crossroads for Women have given a voice to women struggling to overcome the challenges associated with the collateral consequences of incarceration; and

     WHEREAS, the advocacy efforts of Crossroads for Women have resulted in concrete legislative proposals that reflect the perspectives of women who are working to break the cycle of incarceration; and

     WHEREAS, the criminal justice reform subcommittee is grateful for the hard work, input and dedication of the representatives of Crossroads for Women;  

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Crossroads for Women be recognized and honored for its outstanding service to the community; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Crossroads for Women.
