A MEMORIAL
DECLARING FEBRUARY 16, 2015 "PUBLIC EDUCATOR APPRECIATION DAY" IN THE SENATE.
WHEREAS, public educators are a vital and integral part of New Mexico's education system throughout eighty-eight diverse school districts; and
WHEREAS, instructional, support and ancillary personnel are responsible for the important task of educating future generations of New Mexicans, and contribute daily to the growth and success of children, often in challenging settings; and
WHEREAS, educational assistants, instructional assistants and community support liaisons often serve high-needs student populations, including special education students and students with exceptional behavioral and social needs, and often assist teachers with the youngest students in schools; and
WHEREAS, facilities personnel, transportation workers, secretaries and cafeteria workers take pride in the rewarding roles they play within the educational system and work hard to serve all students; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico's public higher education institutions continue to build upon the educational foundation that students received in high school, providing students with essential skills and knowledge to enhance personal growth, economic opportunity and civic engagement; and
WHEREAS, faculty at New Mexico's public colleges and universities conduct groundbreaking research that can lead to important contributions to the economic growth and social well-being of the state; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico's public educators are, as a whole, responsible for challenging, encouraging and preparing multiple generations of New Mexico's children for future success;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 16, 2015 be declared "Public Educator Appreciation Day" in the senate; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that public educators be acknowledged for their immeasurable contributions, hard work and dedication to New Mexico public school students and their parents; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor and the secretary of public education.
