A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING THE FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ALBUQUERQUE HISPANO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce was founded in 1975 by fourteen citizens who saw a need to assist the Hispanic-owned and small business community; and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce is one of the largest Hispanic chambers in the United States and is celebrating its fortieth year in operation; and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce is a first-choice resource that supports business members and the community by enhancing economic opportunities and by providing education, training programs and scholarships; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce is "to promote economic development, to enhance economic development opportunities and to provide business and work force education with an emphasis on the Hispanic and small business community in Albuquerque, New Mexico"; and
WHEREAS, the eighteen-thousand-square-foot campus of the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce is a community hub that houses many resources, including the Barelas economic opportunity center, which offers job training and computer laboratory access to its members and the community, including low-income families; and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce has presented scholarships to students for the past twenty-eight years totaling one million seven hundred thousand dollars ($1,700,000); and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce focuses on small business advocacy, education, work force development, economic development and tourism; and
WHEREAS, the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce was recently recognized as the number one Hispanic chamber in the United States by the United States Hispanic chamber of commerce;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce be recognized for the many contributions it has made to Hispanic-owned and small business communities and to the community at large for the past forty years; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce be congratulated for earning the prestigious award of being named the number one Hispanic chamber of commerce in the United States; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce.
