    Your RULES COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred

SENATE JOINT MEMORIAL 18

has had it under consideration and reports same with recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:

    1. On page 3, between lines 5 and 6, insert the following:

    "WHEREAS, the New Mexico acequia association is a statewide membership-based organization established in 1989 to strengthen local acequias through education and advocacy and has played a central role in legislative initiatives aimed at strengthening acequia governance and water management; and

    WHEREAS, several regional acequia associations were established in New Mexico to provide for a united defense in water rights adjudication, to advocate on acequia issues of common concern and to continue to provide vital leadership at local and statewide levels; and".

    2. On page 3, strike lines 16 through 19 in their entirety and insert in lieu thereof the following:

    "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the appropriate legislative interim committee be requested to consult with the acequia commission, the New Mexico acequia association and regional acequia associations as needed to identify issues to be addressed during the forthcoming legislative interim; and".

    3. On page 3, line 23, after the comma, insert "the New Mexico acequia association,".,

and thence referred to the CONSERVATION COMMITTEE.
