SENATE BILL 207

AN ACT
RELATING TO PUBLIC EDUCATION; PROHIBITING CERTAIN FEES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. A new section of the Public School Code is enacted to read:
"[NEW MATERIAL] CERTAIN FEES PROHIBITED.--
A. A school, local school board or governing body of a charter school shall not charge a registration fee to a student.
B. A school, local school board or governing body of a charter school shall not sanction a student or withhold a transcript, letter of reference, high school diploma or diploma of excellence from a student on the basis of unpaid school fees.
C. As used in this section, "registration fee" means any fee required to complete the registration process to attend a school."
