A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF JOHN P. "JACK" BURTON IN ACHIEVING PASSAGE OF UNIFORM LAWS IN NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, John P. "Jack" Burton has been a tireless advocate for the adoption of uniform laws in the state of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, Jack has served for twenty-five years as a commissioner on the uniform law commission as a delegate from New Mexico and has given countless hours of his time speaking with legislators and legislative staff and providing legal expertise to achieve adoption of more than forty uniform laws, which is more than have been adopted in any other state; and

     WHEREAS, uniform laws bring clarity and stability to critical areas of statutory law; and

     WHEREAS, those who have had the opportunity to work with Jack over the years note his dedication and recount the numerous late nights he spent at the roundhouse providing expert testimony on uniform law bills before legislative committees; and

     WHEREAS, Jack is known for his ability to garner support and confidence from both Democrats and Republicans; and

     WHEREAS, Jack's work has helped to promote uniformity of state law when differing laws would undermine the interests of citizens throughout the United States; and

     WHEREAS, the uniform law commission has honored Jack by presenting him with its lifetime achievement award and by making him a life member; and

     WHEREAS, his exemplary public service is deserving of recognition;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that John P. "Jack" Burton be recognized for his outstanding service to the state of New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to John P. "Jack" Burton.
