A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING MICHAEL CERLETTI AND THE TOURISM DEPARTMENT'S IMPORTANCE TO THE PEOPLE OF NEW MEXICO; DECLARING MARCH 14, 2013 "PI DAY NEW MEXICO".

 

     WHEREAS, Michael Cerletti, former secretary of tourism, loved New Mexico and was a strong advocate for Santa Fe and for all of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, in 2009, the United States house of representatives acknowledged the designation of March 14 as pi day, an unofficial holiday celebrating the mathematical constant pi; and

     WHEREAS, pi day is a celebration of art, science and sharing food; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico has the best art, the most advanced science and a love of sharing unique and magnificent food that is unequaled; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico wants the world to know that this is true; and

     WHEREAS, the city of Santa Fe is attempting to establish a public park in honor of Michael Cerletti; and

     WHEREAS, an apprentice program is being created by the hospitality industry of Santa Fe and Santa Fe community college in Michael Cerletti's name that will direct pi day activities toward an ongoing tradition of service;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Michael Cerletti and the tourism department be recognized for their significant contributions to New Mexico and devotion to the well-being of all New Mexicans; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that March 14, 2013 be declared "Pi Day New Mexico"; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to Mrs. Helen Cerletti, the secretary of tourism and hand pi, LLC.
