A MEMORIAL
DECLARING CONNELL'S CABIN IN THE VILLAGE OF TERRERO IN SAN MIGUEL COUNTY TO BE A NEW MEXICO TREASURE.
WHEREAS, on August 8, 1990, the cultural properties review committee voted to include Connell's cabin, located in the village of Tererro in San Miguel county and overlooking the Pecos river, in the state register of cultural properties in recognition of its historic and cultural significance; and
WHEREAS, Connell's cabin was originally built and used by the United States forest service from 1914 to 1917; and
WHEREAS, in 1925, the cabin was purchased by the American metals company, which operated the historic Tererro lead and zinc ore mine, and the cabin served as living quarters for visiting executives during the mine's heyday; and
WHEREAS, the cabin came into the ownership of A. J. Connell, the original director of the Los Alamos ranch school, which later became Los Alamos national laboratory and the primary site for the World War II Manhattan project; and
WHEREAS, the cabin is now owned by Jay C. Anderson and Thomas C. Larson, who both have a passion to restore and make available this historic landmark for generations to come;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the historic Connell's cabin be declared a New Mexico treasure; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be sent to the governor, the historic preservation division of the cultural affairs department, Jay C. Anderson and Thomas C. Larson.
