A MEMORIAL
PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 21, 2013 TO BE "ST. FELIX PANTRY DAY" IN THE SENATE.
WHEREAS, the St. Felix pantry, incorporated in 1992, is a nonprofit charitable organization that provides food, clothing, household items and referral services free of charge to people in need; and
WHEREAS, for over twenty years, the St. Felix pantry has served as a safety net for people struggling to support their families in times of crisis; and
WHEREAS, the need for the kinds of services offered by St. Felix pantry has grown in relationship to the recent economic downturn; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico ranks forty-eighth in the nation for poverty with a poverty rate of almost eighteen percent; and
WHEREAS, currently, the St. Felix pantry provides groceries for the equivalent of two million meals per year; and
WHEREAS, the St. Felix pantry fed more than fifty-three thousand households, consisting of one hundred fifteen thousand five hundred forty-nine adults and ninety thousand four hundred ten children last year;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the St. Felix pantry be recognized for the contributions it makes to people in need; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that February 21, 2013 be proclaimed "St. Felix Pantry Day" in the senate; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the St. Felix pantry.
