A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE GOVERNOR, THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, THE TOURISM DEPARTMENT AND THE NEW MEXICO CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO WORK TO ACHIEVE THE RE-DESIGNATION OF NEW MEXICO STATE HIGHWAY 333 AS "HISTORIC UNITED STATES ROUTE 66".

 

     WHEREAS, New Mexico state highway 333 is designated on state, national and international printed and electronic media as having been a portion of the historical United States "Route 66"; and

     WHEREAS, many visitors to New Mexico and other states through which the historical United States "Route 66" passed come to New Mexico specifically to locate the historic "mother road" of the United States, yet find it difficult to locate; and

     WHEREAS, many New Mexico businesses and residents enjoy the benefits of "Route 66" tourism;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the governor, the department of transportation, the tourism department and the New Mexico congressional delegation be requested to work to achieve the re-designation of New Mexico state highway 333 as "Historic United States Route 66"; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor, the secretary of transportation, the secretary of tourism and the members of the New Mexico congressional delegation.
