A MEMORIAL
PROCLAIMING JANUARY 28, 2013 TO BE "LAS CRUCES DAY" AT THE SENATE.
WHEREAS, Las Cruces is nestled in the fertile Mesilla valley between the majestic Organ mountains and the meandering Rio Grande; and
WHEREAS, Las Cruces is an ideal location at the crossroads of interstate 10 and interstate 25; and
WHEREAS, Las Cruces blends a unique variety of attractions, with its culture, historical sites and superb year-round weather with three hundred fifty days of sunshine per year; and
WHEREAS, Las Cruces has received high rankings on many lists, including being ranked third on relocateamerica.com's list of "Top 10 Recovery Cities"; ranked sixth on U.S. News & World Report's 2010 "10 Cities for Real Estate Steals"; and ranked nineteenth in Sunset Magazine's "20 Best Towns of the Future"; and
WHEREAS, Las Cruces is the home of the only land grant university in New Mexico, New Mexico state university, as well as the home of Dona Ana community college; and
WHEREAS, Las Cruces has historic roots on the Camino Real and a rich history of farming and feeding the world; and
WHEREAS, Las Cruces is known as New Mexico's community of the future as it serves as the gateway to White Sands missile range and Spaceport America; and
WHEREAS, Las Cruces is celebrating its twenty-sixth year of "Las Cruces Day" in Santa Fe in 2013;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that January 28, 2013 be designated "Las Cruces Day" at the senate to honor and showcase the great people and great places that make up the city of Las Cruces; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the mayor and city council of the city of Las Cruces.
