A JOINT MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING MANA DE ALBUQUERQUE FOR ITS DEDICATION TO THE EMPOWERMENT OF LATINAS; PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 21, 2013 TO BE "MANA DE ALBUQUERQUE DAY" IN THE LEGISLATURE.

     WHEREAS, MANA de Albuquerque is an organization of men and women who support the goals of advocating for fairness and equality in education, housing, health care, human rights and cultural issues for all, and especially for Latinas; and

     WHEREAS, MANA de Albuquerque's "Hermanitas Leadership Academy" is a program dedicated to fostering leadership and positive life skills through mentoring middle school and high school age Latinas; and

     WHEREAS, MANA de Albuquerque has awarded over sixty-five thousand dollars ($65,000) in scholarships over the past ten years to Latinas of all ages to assist them in their pursuit of a higher education and a better life; and

     WHEREAS, MANA de Albuquerque provides mentoring and a network of community members to assist with and foster the advancement of all women; and

     WHEREAS, MANA de Albuquerque is a pro-choice organization advocating for the historical principle of this democracy of a woman's right to choose; and

     WHEREAS, MANA de Albuquerque provides a wide range of information on important issues and supports the advocacy and leadership roles for all women;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it extend its congratulations, recognition and best wishes for continued success to MANA de Albuquerque; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that February 21, 2013 be proclaimed "MANA de Albuquerque Day" in the legislature; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to MANA de Albuquerque.
