A MEMORIAL
HONORING THE ZIA CHAPTER OF PARALYZED VETERANS OF AMERICA AND RECOGNIZING APRIL 2013 AS "ZIA CHAPTER OF PARALYZED VETERANS OF AMERICA MONTH".
WHEREAS, the Zia chapter of paralyzed veterans of America was founded in 1967; and
WHEREAS, the paralyzed veterans of America is a congressionally chartered veterans services organization; and
WHEREAS, the Zia chapter of paralyzed veterans of America was chartered to help veterans of the armed forces who have spinal cord diseases or who have suffered spinal cord injuries; and
WHEREAS, through educational programs, the Zia chapter promotes the full participation in society of those with spinal cord injuries or diseases; and
WHEREAS, the Zia chapter also advocates for advanced medical research in fields related to spinal cord injuries and diseases, including neurosurgery, orthopedics and prosthetic appliances; and
WHEREAS, the Zia chapter was instrumental in establishing the spinal cord injury center at the Raymond G. Murphy veterans administration medical center in Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, chapter members who work with patients maintain a strong presence at the spinal cord injury center; and
WHEREAS, the Zia chapter offers financial aid for local medical personnel to attend educational and informational seminars on spinal cord injuries and treatment; and
WHEREAS, the Zia chapter also helps disabled children in their sporting and academic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, the chapter has received national recognition for its consistent support of New Mexico's veterans who suffer from spinal cord injuries or diseases;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that members of the Zia chapter of paralyzed veterans of America be honored for their commitment and dedication to improving the lives of veterans in New Mexico; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that April 2013 be recognized as "Zia Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America Month"; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the Zia chapter of paralyzed veterans of America.
