A MEMORIAL

DIRECTING THE CHIEF CLERK OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO RESEARCH THE COSTS AND OPTIONS OF OBTAINING A NEW HOUSE VOTING SYSTEM.

 

     WHEREAS, the accuracy and efficiency of the voting system used by the house of representatives and its flexibility in meeting member needs are of utmost importance; and

     WHEREAS, the system currently used by the house of representatives utilizes equipment, physical wiring and technology that is over two decades old and requires constant attention; and

     WHEREAS, technology and equipment now exist that can be of unique value to the house of representatives and offer increased confidence to house members and increased convenience to the public;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the chief clerk of the house of representatives be directed to research the costs and options of obtaining a new house voting system that utilizes the best technologies of the twenty-first century and provides flexibility and affordable options far into the future; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the chief clerk be directed to provide a final report and recommendations to the leadership of the house of representatives by July 1, 2013; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the chief clerk of the house of representatives.
