A MEMORIAL
PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 8, 2013 "NEW MEXICO OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY DAY" AT THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
WHEREAS, occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants serve New Mexicans across their life spans through the therapeutic use of everyday activities, helping people to "Live Life to Its Fullest" after an illness or injury; and
WHEREAS, the practice of occupational therapy means the therapeutic use of occupations, including everyday life activities with individuals, groups, populations or organizations to support participation, performance and function in roles and situations in home, school, workplace, community and other settings; and
WHEREAS, occupational therapy services are provided for habilitation, rehabilitation and the promotion of health and wellness for those who have or are at risk for developing an illness, injury, disease, disorder, condition, impairment, disability, activity limitation or participation restriction; and
WHEREAS, occupational therapy addresses the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, sensory-perceptual and other aspects of performance in a variety of contexts and environments to support engagement in occupations that affect physical and mental health, well-being and quality of life; and
WHEREAS, the New Mexico occupational therapy association is a statewide professional body of occupational therapy practitioners with a mission to promote and develop the practice of occupational therapy in the state of New Mexico;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 8, 2013 be proclaimed "Occupational Therapy Day" at the house of representatives and that recognition be extended to occupational therapy practitioners throughout the state for their valuable service; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico occupational therapy association.
