A JOINT MEMORIAL
PROCLAIMING WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2013, TO BE "ALBUQUERQUE WEST SIDE DAY" AT THE LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, the west side of Albuquerque, Bernalillo county, New Mexico, is the fastest-growing area in the state; and
WHEREAS, many neighborhoods and communities on the west side work tirelessly to provide needed infrastructure to help spur economic investments to grow business development and job creation; and
WHEREAS, west side Albuquerque schools have steadily improved graduation rates and dropout rates; and
WHEREAS, community members and local elected officials have joined forces to create healthy and safe neighborhoods on Albuquerque's west side; and
WHEREAS, the west side is the western gateway to Albuquerque's historic route 66 heritage; and
WHEREAS, the west side has the highest percentage of Hispanics in Albuquerque, whose roots date back to the early Spanish settlers; and
WHEREAS, the west side has the most beautiful views of the city of Albuquerque and the Sandia and Manzano mountains; and
WHEREAS, west side residents take pride in calling themselves "west siders";
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 27, 2013 be recognized as "Albuquerque West Side Day" at the legislature; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the mayor of Albuquerque, the Bernalillo county commission, the south valley coalition of neighborhoods, the southwest alliance of neighbors and the west side coalition of neighborhoods.
