A JOINT MEMORIAL

PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 7, 2013 "SANTA FE COMMUNITY COLLEGE DAY" AT THE LEGISLATURE.

 

     WHEREAS, each year, Santa Fe community college serves more than fourteen thousand students with affordable, accessible opportunities that increase job skills, improve academic advancement and provide a higher quality of life for New Mexicans; and

     WHEREAS, Santa Fe community college is an integral part of the fabric of the community and an economic driver for the state; and

     WHEREAS, Santa Fe community college offers a wide range of educational and work force training programs that help strengthen the economy by meeting the needs of business, government and a diverse population; and

     WHEREAS, the breadth and variety of Santa Fe community college's curricula support and assist students of all ages, incomes and education levels to acquire the knowledge and skills to ensure a successful future; and

     WHEREAS, Santa Fe community college provides free and low-cost assistance to eligible students and community members, supports the arts through campus events and activities and enriches the educational and experiential offerings in the community; and

     WHEREAS, students at Santa Fe community college can pursue everything from green technologies to allied health; from fine arts and culinary arts to human services; from adult basic education and English language assistance to specialized work force training, new media and design programs; and from teaching to nursing; and

     WHEREAS, Santa Fe community college offers a wide range of business degrees and continuing education courses; and

     WHEREAS, Santa Fe community college has opened two new facilities to better meet the needs of students and the community: the health and sciences building and the sustainable technology center, both of which will provide opportunities for high-quality education in a variety of health care and "green" careers; and

     WHEREAS, Santa Fe community college is experiencing unprecedented enrollment growth and success in this, its twenty-eighth year; and

     WHEREAS, Santa Fe community college has achieved the quality New Mexico roadrunner recognition award, and it is a conscientious fiscal steward of local, state and federal funds;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 7, 2013 be proclaimed "Santa Fe Community College Day" at the legislature to honor and showcase the college, its many contributions and its commitment to students and community; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the president of Santa Fe community college.
