AN ACT
RELATING TO PROCUREMENT; MAKING AN EXCEPTION TO THE AMERICAN-MADE MOTOR VEHICLES REQUIREMENT IN THE PROCUREMENT CODE.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. Section 13-1-188 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1984, Chapter 65, Section 161, as amended) is amended to read:
"13-1-188. PUBLIC ACQUISITION OF AMERICAN-MADE MOTOR VEHICLES REQUIRED.--A state agency shall only acquire motor vehicles assembled in North America except for gas-electric hybrid vehicles until these vehicles are assembled in North America and except for motor vehicles used by law enforcement agencies if those motor vehicles are manufactured by a company or consolidated entity whose headquarters is located in the United States. For the purposes of this section, "motor vehicle" means a light-duty vehicle under [8,500] eight thousand five hundred pounds."
