SENATE MEMORIAL 76
50th legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - second session, 2012
INTRODUCED BY
Timothy Z. Jennings
A MEMORIAL
CELEBRATING AMERICAN PRODUCTS AND THE GREAT PRIDE THAT COMES WITH BUYING AMERICAN PRODUCTS.
WHEREAS, a multitude of products are conceptualized, manufactured and sold in the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, when people buy American products, they are also buying from an American, so the money stays in America and helps keep the American economy growing; and
WHEREAS, foreign labor standards sometimes allow unsafe worker conditions, so when people buy American products, they support not only American manufacturers but also American workers, safe working conditions and child labor laws; and
WHEREAS, American manufacturing processes are much cleaner for the environment than in many other countries, so purchasing American-made products can help to keep the world a little cleaner for generations to come; and
WHEREAS, the less American manufacturing there is, the more Americans rely on other countries to fulfill their needs, but when people seek out American-made goods, it fosters American independence; and
WHEREAS, foreign product safety standards are often lower than American safety standards, so buying toys and other goods made in America provides the confidence that consumer protection laws and safety standards are in place to protect families; and
WHEREAS, buying American products sends a message that Americans insist on a higher standard of quality for their products and all that goes into them and is something of which to be proud;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that American products be celebrated as the world's greatest; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the senate acknowledge the great pride that comes with buying American products; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor, the secretary of economic development and the appropriate interim legislative committee.
