A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 13, 2012 TO BE "SANTA FE FIESTA MELODRAMA DAY" AT THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, the fiesta melodrama celebrates its ninetieth year as an honored part of the fiestas de Santa Fe; and

     WHEREAS, the fiestas de Santa Fe would be utterly devoid of entertainment without the beloved melodrama; and

     WHEREAS, the fiesta melodrama reflects the best—and worst—of who New Mexicans are as a people; and

     WHEREAS, the fiesta melodrama makes sure that no one, especially members of local and state government, take themselves more seriously than they should; and

     WHEREAS, the Santa Fe playhouse, the home of the fiesta melodrama that also celebrates its ninetieth year, sits no more than a furlong from the New Mexico legislature;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 13, 2012 be designated as "Santa Fe Fiesta Melodrama Day" at the New Mexico house of representatives to honor and showcase the indescribable glory that is the fiesta melodrama; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the Santa Fe playhouse and to the mayor and city council of the city of Santa Fe.
