A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING THE LIFE AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF ROBERT M. HAWK.
WHEREAS, Robert M. Hawk was born in Purcell, Oklahoma, on November 13, 1924 and passed away on June 7, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Robert M. Hawk moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1946, and he graduated from the university of New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, upon his retirement from Sandia national laboratories, he dedicated himself to serving the community of Albuquerque and the state of New Mexico in many ways; and
WHEREAS, Robert M. Hawk served on various boards, including the board of New Mexico's state psychiatric hospital, the board of trustees of the university of New Mexico hospitals and the advisory board of the Sequoyah adolescent treatment center; and
WHEREAS, he was called to public service and served for six years as a Bernalillo county commissioner and for fourteen years as a New Mexico state representative; and
WHEREAS, during his time in the legislature, Representative Hawk championed mental health issues, particularly those involving children, and he sponsored major legislation to address the issue of driving while intoxicated, legislation which has saved thousands of lives; and
WHEREAS, Representative Hawk chaired the house taxation and revenue committee from 1991 to 1994 and, with uncompromising ethics, was a steadfast steward of the state budget and tax revenues; and
WHEREAS, he also served on various other standing committees, including the appropriations and finance committee, the consumer and public affairs committee and the labor and human resources committee; and
WHEREAS, through his extensive public service and community involvement, Robert M. Hawk lived a life that served as an inspiration to others of the joy of service to one's community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it recognize
the life and many accomplishments of Robert M. Hawk; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that heartfelt condolences be
extended to the family and many friends of Robert M. Hawk; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
transmitted to the family of Robert M. Hawk.
