AN ACT
RELATING TO THE PUBLIC PEACE, HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A CHARTER SCHOOL FACILITIES TASK FORCE AND A FACILITATOR FOR THE TASK FORCE.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Thirty-five thousand dollars ($35,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2013 to establish a charter school facilities task force and to contract with a statewide public policy organization to assist the task force by facilitating the task force's work in developing solutions on how charter schools, including state-chartered charter schools that are not affiliated with a school district, may acquire needed buildings. The task force shall review existing laws, policies and practices and, from its research, shall develop recommendations and best practices. A final report, which summarizes the laws, policies and practices the task force uses to develop its recommendations, shall be presented to the legislative education study committee, the public school capital outlay council, the public school capital outlay oversight task force and other pertinent legislative committees and executive agencies. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2013 shall revert to the general fund.
