A MEMORIAL
EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE RAINDROP TURKISH HOUSE AND THE TURQUOISE COUNCIL OF AMERICANS AND EURASIANS; DECRYING ACTS OF INTOLERANCE AGAINST MINORITIES, INCLUDING TURKISH VISITORS AND TURKISH-AMERICANS; CONGRATULATING THE RAINDROP TURKISH HOUSE ON ITS GRAND OPENING.
WHEREAS, the turquoise council of Americans and Eurasians is an independent organization headquartered in Houston that is committed to advancing the interaction among American and Turkish, Turkic and Eurasian people to promote and encourage continuing good relationship and understanding for people from all cultures and all religions; and
WHEREAS, the turquoise council of Americans and Eurasians is an umbrella organization in the south and southwestern regions of the United States, encompassing the raindrop Turkish house and the institute of interfaith dialogue in Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the raindrop Turkish house is to introduce Turkish culture into American society and to cultivate friendship and promote the understanding of diverse cultures through its unique services to the community, through dialogue and through cooperation; and
WHEREAS, the institute of interfaith dialogue, a nonprofit organization, promotes mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence for people of all cultures and all religions; and
WHEREAS, the raindrop Turkish house serves as a home to Turkish-Americans and helps them to integrate into multicultural American society; and
WHEREAS, Turkish-Americans have established many organizations to promote understanding between Turkish-Americans and their fellow citizens; and
WHEREAS, Turkish-Americans have established international charities to promote the well-being of people all over the world; and
WHEREAS, Turkish-American businesses and nonprofit
organizations have expressed concern over acts of intolerance
to which American Muslims, including Turkish-Americans, have
been subjected in recent years;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE
OF NEW MEXICO that it express its support for the work of the
turquoise council of Americans and Eurasians and the raindrop
Turkish house in furthering intercultural communication and
educating all citizens on the importance of living together in
a spirit of acceptance and dialogue; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that any acts of intolerance
directed at minorities in New Mexico, including Turkish
visitors and Turkish-American residents, be decried; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the raindrop Turkish house be
congratulated on its official grand opening scheduled to take
place in late 2011; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the president of the turquoise council of Americans and Eurasians and the executive director of the raindrop Turkish house.
