A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 11, 2011 "WESTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY FOUNDERS DAY" IN THE SENATE.

     WHEREAS, the territorial legislature adopted Laws 1893, Chapter 19 on February 11, 1893, establishing a state educational institution at Silver City to be known as New Mexico normal school; and

     WHEREAS, the name was later changed to western New Mexico university; and

     WHEREAS, western New Mexico university has made enormous contributions to the state's cultural, intellectual, social and educational growth while remaining firmly attached to its community roots;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 11, 2011 be declared "Western New Mexico University Founders Day" in the senate.
