A MEMORIAL
REQUESTING THE CREATION OF THE NEW MEXICAN-TURKISH HOSPITALITY LEADERSHIP TASK FORCE BY THE NEW MEXICO LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
WHEREAS, the Republic of Turkey and the United States are long-standing allies, both dearly cherishing the universal values of freedom, democracy and human rights; and
WHEREAS, in its alliance with the United States, the Republic of Turkey has demonstrated its commitment to world peace and liberty, as well as its tolerance of others in the secular and religious venues; and
WHEREAS, the Anatolian peninsula, comprising most of modern Turkey, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited regions in the world; and
WHEREAS, the Republic of Turkey has a very diverse culture that is a blend of various elements of the Oğuz Turkic, Anatolian, Ottoman and western cultures and traditions; and
WHEREAS, the Republic of Turkey was a founding member of the United Nations; and
WHEREAS, the Republic of Turkey has a rich history and strong cultural identity; and
WHEREAS, the Republic of Turkey is known worldwide for its architecture and archaeological riches; and
WHEREAS, the Republic of Turkey has the world's fifteenth- largest gross domestic product and Europe's sixth-largest economy; and
WHEREAS, the Republic of Turkey has one of the world's fastest growing economies; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the state of New Mexico to cultivate further the good relationship established between New Mexico and the Republic of Turkey and other Turkic nations; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the turquoise council of Americans and Eurasians is to promote cultural, educational, academic, business, social and arts relations and to organize events and activities to bring together the American and Turkish, Turkic and Eurasian communities within the United States;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that a New Mexican-Turkish hospitality leadership task force be created by the New Mexico legislative council to further long-standing New Mexican-Turkish relations, build upon time-honored friendships and promote the cultural, educational, academic, political and economic relations between New Mexico and the Turkish people; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the turquoise council of Americans and Eurasians and the New Mexico legislative council.
