A MEMORIAL
CELEBRATING FAMILIES AND DECLARING WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 19, 2011, AS "NEW MEXICO FAMILY AND PARENT INVOLVEMENT DAY" IN THE SENATE.
WHEREAS, parents and families are a young child's first teachers and are essential to supporting a child's school readiness and future success; and
WHEREAS, parents and families promote a child's learning and health by caring for, nurturing and building upon the strengths of their children; and
WHEREAS, parents and families often serve as the main advocates that children have in dealing with health, education and other services that support children's growth and development; and
WHEREAS, parents and families play long-lasting, purposeful roles in children's lives from birth to young adulthood; and
WHEREAS, in this rapidly changing world, schools, families and communities must work together to ensure the success of children; and
WHEREAS, culture, family tradition and home language are critically important elements in the fabric of New Mexicans, bringing unique, necessary strengths to the state; and
WHEREAS, successful children are the product of instilled values, respect for families of different circumstances, treatment of children as equal partners and joint decision- makers in their education and careful attention to their perspectives; and
WHEREAS, the strengths, capabilities, contributions and interests of all families help to create family-friendly environments in which children can grow and thrive;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it celebrate New Mexico families and declare Wednesday, January 19, 2011, as "New Mexico Family and Parent Involvement Day" in the senate.
