A JOINT MEMORIAL
PROCLAIMING MARCH 1, 2011 "PUBLIC TELEVISION DAY IN NEW MEXICO" BY THE NEW MEXICO STATE LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, the stations of New Mexico public television, KNME Albuquerque, KRWG Las Cruces and KENW Portales, have provided quality, educational programs and lifelong learning to the residents of New Mexico for more than fifty years; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico public television is the largest provider of preschool education in the state and trains hundreds of parents, teachers and child care providers each year; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico public television pioneered the transition to digital technology for the broadcast industry in New Mexico and provides free, over-the-air broadcast coverage throughout New Mexico, including the most remote areas of the state, through its network of translators; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico public television tells the stories of New Mexico to the world, celebrating the state's art, culture and history by producing and distributing programs that have received numerous regional and national awards; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico public television provides in-depth news coverage through KNME's New Mexico in Focus, KRWG's Newsmakers and KENW's News from Santa Fe; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico public television provides quality national programs on the arts, history, culture, science and technology and news and public affairs; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico public television serves the state by sharing resources to deliver content through fiber interconnectivity and to provide statewide coverage of major issues;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that March 1, 2011 be proclaimed "Public Television Day in New Mexico"; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the members of the New Mexico congressional delegation.
