HOUSE MEMORIAL 15
50th legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - first session, 2011
INTRODUCED BY
Nate Gentry
A MEMORIAL
HONORING POLICE, SHERIFFS, LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL, FIREFIGHTERS AND FIREFIGHTER PARAMEDICS AROUND THE STATE FOR THEIR DAILY HEROISM AND SELFLESS DEDICATION TO PROTECTING NEW MEXICANS FROM HARM.
WHEREAS, many layers of protection underlie society at all times, and this safety net makes it possible for New Mexicans to go about their days without fearing for their lives at every turn; and
WHEREAS, without the selfless dedication that some individuals feel for making society a safe place for all, this web of safety would not exist; and
WHEREAS, many dedicated young men and women choose to enter law enforcement, firefighting and the field of paramedics every year despite the incredible dangers that come as part of the job and despite wages that are often not commensurate with the risks they will face; and
WHEREAS, as responders to every sort of emergency, law enforcement officers, firefighters and firefighter paramedics never know whether their day will bring them a stranded kitten in a tree or a terrorist attack, much less whether they will end their day safe at home with their loved ones; and
WHEREAS, hundreds of police departments and sheriffs' offices around the country have lost personnel in the line of duty, and President John F. Kennedy declared May 15 as "Peace Officers Memorial Day" to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico sets aside September 11 as a day of remembrance to honor those brave and compassionate firefighters who have also fallen in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, without the courageous men and women serving in law enforcement agencies and fire departments, the state would be a lesser place for all;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that recognition and appreciation be extended to police, sheriffs, law enforcement personnel, firefighters and firefighter paramedics statewide for their daily heroism and dedication to protecting New Mexicans from harm; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of public safety, the New Mexico sheriffs' and police association, the New Mexico state firefighters association and the New Mexico emergency medical technicians association.
