A MEMORIAL

CELEBRATING THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO LOBOS MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS SPECTACULAR SEASON; THANKING THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO LOBOS MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THE TREMENDOUS MEMORIES, JOY AND PRIDE IT HAS INSTILLED IN THE HEARTS OF EVERY NEW MEXICAN.

     WHEREAS, the university of New Mexico Lobos men's basketball team's coach, Steve Alford, is a former "Mr. Basketball" from Indiana, so named for being player of the year in Indiana high school basketball in 1983; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Alford led the Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball team to the national collegiate athletic association national championship in 1987; and

     WHEREAS, the Lobos have won the mountain west conference regular season, their first outright conference championship in sixteen years; and

     WHEREAS, the Lobos have already won twenty-eight games and tied for the most wins in a season in school history; and

     WHEREAS, the Lobos have two separate win streaks of twelve and fourteen victories, respectively; and

     WHEREAS, this year's team is the best Lobos team since the 1978 team led by Marvin "Automatic" Johnson and all-American Michael Cooper; and

     WHEREAS, Darington Hobson is one of only two players in the nation that average more than fifteen points, nine rebounds and four assists per game, and he is deserving of being named conference player of the year and first team all-American; and

     WHEREAS, the only senior on the Lobos, Roman Martinez, was named to the 2009-2010 ESPN The Magazine's academic all-American men's basketball team and is a Lobos team leader; and

     WHEREAS, the Lobo nation is looking forward to winning the mountain west conference tournament and making a serious run in the national collegiate athletic association tournament, "March madness"; and

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that congratulations be extended to the university of New Mexico Lobos men's basketball coach Steve Alford, to Roman Martinez, to the Lobos team, to Lobos staff and especially to all the fans of Lobo nation; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the university of New Mexico Lobos men's basketball team be thanked for the tremendous memories, joy and pride it has instilled in the hearts of every New Mexican; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the president of the university of New Mexico, David J. Schmidly; the director of athletics of the university of New Mexico, Paul Krebs; and the men's basketball coach of the university of New Mexico, Steve Alford; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that everyone's a Lobo — "Wolf! Wolf! Wolf!"
