AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE INDIAN AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT TO CREATE A TASK FORCE ON NATIVE AMERICAN ARTS AND CRAFTS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the Indian affairs department for expenditure in fiscal year 2011 to create, along with the cultural affairs department and the office of the attorney general, a task force to study Native American arts and crafts, including the extent to which the manufacture and sale of Native American arts and crafts contributes to the state's culture and economy; the potential adverse impact of the import, production and sale of items of nonauthentic Native American arts and crafts; the extent to which nonauthentic Native American arts and crafts are misrepresented to the public; and policy recommendations and legislation that the state might enact to promote and protect the contribution of the manufacture and sale of Native American arts and crafts to the state's economy. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2011 shall revert to the general fund.
