AN ACT

RELATING TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS; REQUIRING SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO ALIGN ALL MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE COURSES UNDER THE SAME COURSE TITLES AS THOSE USED BY THE STUDENT DATA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN THE STUDENT-TEACHER ACCOUNTABILITY REPORTING SYSTEM; REQUIRING STANDARDIZED COURSE CONTENT.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. A new section of the Public School Code is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE COURSES--COURSE TITLES SAME AS TITLE IN STUDENT DATA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM-- STANDARDIZED COURSE CONTENT.--Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, all school districts shall:

          A. align their mathematics and science courses under the same course titles as those used by the student data management system in the student-teacher accountability reporting system; and

          B. standardize the content of each mathematics and science course in alignment with the department's content standards, benchmarks and performance standards for that course."
