AN ACT

RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES; REQUIRING AN APPLICANT FOR REGISTRATION OF A VEHICLE TO PROVIDE THE NUMBER OF THE APPLICANT'S CURRENT DRIVER'S LICENSE AND PROOF OF THE APPLICANT'S DATE OF BIRTH.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. Section 66-2-8 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1978, Chapter 35, Section 12) is amended to read:

     "66-2-8. AUTHORITY TO GRANT OR REFUSE APPLICATIONS.--The division shall examine and determine the genuineness, regularity and legality of every application for registration of a vehicle, for a certificate of title therefor and for a driver's license and of any other application lawfully made to the division. The division in all cases may make investigation as may be deemed necessary, may require additional information and shall reject any [such] application if not [satisifed] satisfied of the genuineness, regularity or legality thereof or the truth of any statement contained therein or for any other reason when authorized by law. The division shall require that an applicant for registration of a vehicle provide the number of the applicant's current driver's license, if the applicant has a current driver's license, and proof of the date of birth of the applicant."
