A MEMORIAL
PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 25, 2009 AS "STAND UP FOR SANTA FE PUBLIC SCHOOLS DAY" AT THE SENATE.
WHEREAS, each year, Santa Fe public schools serve about thirteen thousand seven hundred students, including charter school students, in Santa Fe county; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe public schools offer a wide range of educational programs and services to meet the needs of students from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic groups; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe public schools provide school choice and opportunities that enhance the quality of life through academic, career, bilingual, special education and academically enriching programs; and
WHEREAS, the Santa Fe public schools curricula assist students of all ages and skill levels to acquire the knowledge they need to ensure a successful future; and
WHEREAS, students at Santa Fe public schools can pursue a wide variety of course offerings and electives in secondary schools, ranging from culinary arts to careers in film, media, theater, dance, health and engineering; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe public schools strive to provide nurturing environments that foster a student-centered educational environment within a set mission that focuses on equity, diversity and social justice; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe public schools provide after-school programs, alternative programs and tutoring support services as a way of assisting students and families; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe public schools strive to provide state-of-the-art technology, equipment and security services for the safety and security of school campuses; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe public schools have worked diligently to create alternatives to the long-term suspension of students by creating restorative justice programs in secondary schools; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe public schools place strong emphasis on quality learning environments through the maintenance, preventative maintenance, renovation and preservation of facilities; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe public schools and the governing board, superintendent, administration, faculty and staff believe strongly in the mission of the school district, which is "helping students succeed in a local and global economy";
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 25, 2009 be proclaimed "Stand up for Santa Fe Public Schools Day" at the senate to honor and showcase the talents of students and the contribution and commitment of Santa Fe public schools to students and the community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the public education department and the superintendent of the Santa Fe public schools.
