HOUSE MEMORIAL 86
49th legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - first session, 2009
INTRODUCED BY
Benjamin H. Rodefer
"THE HOUSE RULES MEMORIAL"
CONGRATULATING THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR ONCE AGAIN DECISIVELY TROUNCING THE SENATE IN THE ANNUAL HOUSE-SENATE BASKETBALL GAME.
WHEREAS, once a year, the members of the New Mexico legislature take a break from the serious and heavy responsibility of lawmaking to brush off their finely honed athletic skills in an allegedly friendly game of basketball; and
WHEREAS, on the evening of March 6, 2009, the house soundly defeated the senate in a final score of 61 to 51; and
WHEREAS, this was the tenth year in a row that the house has soundly defeated the senate, demonstrating that the house of representatives indeed "rules"; and
WHEREAS, thus, the senate has been an almost respectable number two for a full decade; and
WHEREAS, unlike the senate, the house team played several members of the female persuasion in full compliance with Title 9 of the educational amendments of 1972 and House Bill 432, the School Athletics and Equity Act; and
WHEREAS, many overly confident senators expended a great deal of wind and energy in "trash talking" prior to the game, and apparently spent more time talking than working on their actual court skills; and
WHEREAS, in all seriousness, the game was played for a very worthwhile cause and among dear friends and colleagues and raised ten thousand dollars ($10,000) for the cancer center of the university of New Mexico in memory of Patty Jennings;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the house of representatives team members be congratulated for once again decisively trouncing the senate team and demonstrating, hopefully once and for all, that the "House Rules" and is indeed the upper chamber.
