A MEMORIAL
DECLARING MARCH 27, 2009 AS "VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL DAY" IN THE NEW MEXICO HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
WHEREAS, the Vietnam veterans of New Mexico served their country with honor and courage; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico had more soldiers per capita than any other state that either enlisted or were drafted during the Vietnam Conflict; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico suffered three hundred ninety-nine casualties during the Vietnam Conflict; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico is the birthplace of eight medal of honor recipients who were awarded America's highest military honor during the Vietnam Conflict; and
WHEREAS, Vietnam veterans in New Mexico have paid a great price for the freedom that we all enjoy; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico owes a great debt to the veterans of the Vietnam Conflict;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that March 27, 2009 be declared "Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day" in the house of representatives and that recognition be given to all Vietnam veterans throughout New Mexico for their service to our country; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of veterans' services.
