A MEMORIAL
REQUESTING THE VETERANS' SERVICES DEPARTMENT TO WORK WITH THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT, THE TOURISM DEPARTMENT AND THE VILLAGE OF ANGEL FIRE TO STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF DEVELOPING A VETERANS' HEALTH AND HEALING CENTER IN THE MORENO VALLEY NEAR ANGEL FIRE.
WHEREAS, the mission of the veterans' services department is to serve the veterans of this state; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the economic development department is to assist local businesses to develop, grow and enhance the economy of New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the tourism department is to create, promote and develop tourism opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the village of Angel Fire, located in northern New Mexico, is the location of the Vietnam veterans memorial state park; and
WHEREAS, the veterans of this country have always been attracted to the beautiful and serene surroundings near the Vietnam veterans memorial state park in Angel Fire; and
WHEREAS, there is an increasing need for the country's veterans to find assistance and a place where wellness and peace are available; and
WHEREAS, there is no veterans' health and healing center dedicated solely to taking care of veterans in a place of peace and tranquility;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the veterans' services department, the economic development department, the tourism department and the village of Angel Fire be requested to study the feasibility of developing a veterans' health and healing center in the Moreno Valley in northern New Mexico; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that theses agencies present their findings to the appropriate interim committee of the legislature by November 1, 2009; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the secretaries of veterans' services, economic development and tourism and to the mayor of the village of Angel Fire.
