A JOINT MEMORIAL
EXPRESSING THE LEGISLATURE'S SUPPORT FOR THE TAOS COUNTY COMMUNITY CENTERS CONCEPT AND REQUESTING CONGRESS TO EXTEND HELP FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES.
WHEREAS, Taos county has benefited from rural communities initiatives that have helped it support its community center and its activities; and
WHEREAS, the support was derived from federal funding made available from Public Law 103-327, providing communities a means of making low-interest mortgages for community purposes; and
WHEREAS, federal concept funding through Public Law 103-327, adopted in 1994, flows directly into rural communities through an organized and predictable process; and
WHEREAS, the office of community development of Taos county has procured federal funding for rural job creation and for community services through Public Law 103-327 funding; and
WHEREAS, other rural counties and communities in New Mexico could also benefit from this funding; and
WHEREAS, through Public Law 103-327 funding, rural counties and communities can obtain access to funding for federal services and programs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state support extending Public Law 103-327 concept funding to all counties in New Mexico; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature encourage congress to amend and extend Public Law 103-327 funding to all rural communities in the country; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the president of the United States, the New Mexico congressional delegation and the governor.
