A JOINT MEMORIAL
PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 17, 2009 AS "SANTA FE COMMUNITY COLLEGE DAY" AT THE LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, each year, the Santa Fe community college serves close to fourteen thousand five hundred students from throughout northern and central New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe community college offers a wide range of educational programs and services to meet the needs of businesses, government and a diverse population; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe community college provides affordable and accessible opportunities to enhance the quality of life through academic, career and personal enrichment programs; and
WHEREAS, the Santa Fe community college curricula assist students of all ages and skill levels to acquire the knowledge to ensure a successful future; and
WHEREAS, students at Santa Fe community college can pursue everything from culinary arts to human services, from adult basic education to specialized workforce training, and they can take courses in design, teaching, nursing, business and all types of continuing education; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe community college has begun construction of a new health and sciences building, which will provide enhanced opportunities for high-quality education in a variety of health care fields; and
WHEREAS, later this year, the community college will break ground on a sustainable technologies center; and
WHEREAS, Santa Fe community college is twenty-five years old this year and on Saturday, May 2, 2009, will honor its legislative founders, celebrate the establishment of the institution and reaffirm its mission to "help students succeed and serve our community";
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 17, 2009 be proclaimed "Santa Fe Community College Day" at the legislature to honor and showcase the founding of the college, its many contributions and its commitment to students and community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the president of Santa Fe community college.
