AN ACT

RELATING TO HIGHER EDUCATION; REQUIRING THE HIGHER EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO ESTABLISH UNIFORM AND CONSISTENT CUT SCORES FOR PLACEMENT IN COLLEGE-LEVEL COURSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. PUBLIC POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION UNIFORM CUT SCORES FOR COURSE PLACEMENT.--The higher education department, in collaboration with the public post-secondary educational institutions, shall establish uniform and consistent cut scores for placement in college-level courses; provided that the department shall not establish admission standards for any public post-secondary educational institution. The uniform cut scores shall be effective at all public post-secondary educational institutions no later than January 1, 2010.
