48th legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - second session, 2008
INTRODUCED BY
Gloria C. Vaughn
A MEMORIAL
REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO MUSIC COMMISSION TO USE A LESS STRINGENT RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR ENTRANTS IN THE NEW MEXICO COWBOY SONG COMPETITION.
WHEREAS, the New Mexico house of representatives in 2007 passed House Memorial 70 requesting the New Mexico music commission to conduct a competition for a New Mexico cowboy song; and
WHEREAS, the New Mexico music commission is conducting a competition for a New Mexico cowboy song and is receiving entries in the competition; and
WHEREAS, House Memorial 70 directed that the competition be open to any person who was born in New Mexico or who has lived in New Mexico consecutively for the past twenty years; and
WHEREAS, the New Mexico music commission reports that entries have been received from persons with strong New Mexico ties who do not meet the standard of twenty consecutive years' residence in New Mexico and that this residency requirement may unduly restrict entries in the competition;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico music commission be requested to open the competition to any person who was born in New Mexico or who has lived in New Mexico consecutively for the past ten years; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico music commission, the governor and each country-western radio station in the state.
