SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 482 appropriates $150 thousand from the general fund to Cultural Affairs department
for statewide outreach for and to raise awareness of the New Mexico State History Museum.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $150 thousand contained in Senate Bill 4842 is a recurring expense to the
general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY09 shall
revert to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
Construction of the New Mexico History Museum adjacent to the Palace of the Governors is
ongoing with the 96,000-square-foot addition scheduled to open in spring 2009. FY08 funding
included $621 thousand authorizing partial funding for 6 FTE for facility programming and
exhibition set-up. The department estimates it will obtain an occupancy certificate in July 2008,
with subsequent exhibition set-up and punch-list items to be completed prior to the spring 2009
opening.
