SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 418 appropriates one hundred fifty thousand dollars from the General Fund to the
Office of Cultural Affairs. This appropriation would fund a web-site for a Native American Arts
festival in Santa Fe.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) contained in this bill is a
recurring expense to the General Fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at
the end of Fiscal Year 2009 shall revert to the General Fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
Santa Fe has been known as the center of Native American culture and arts and crafts for many
years. Notably the ‘Indian Market’ in Santa Fe is known world-wide. This appropriation is
targeted at younger Native American artisans, who will take advantage of a web-site formed with
the proceeds of funding. Younger Native American artisans would then be able to learn about
web-site marketing and use of the internet. They will also be able to expand the scope of the
