SUMMARY
Synopsis of SJC Amendment
The Senate Judiciary Committee Amendment requires applicants to demonstrate need by
showing that their malpractice insurance premiums have increased every year for two years;
requires any award to be subject to availability of funds; provides that an award be no more than
$5 thousand; provides that an award shall be disbursed based on the percentage of Medicaid
patients or indigent patients seen in a practice; clarifies that physicians need not have a low
number of patients before they can apply for an award; and, removes the appropriation from the
General Fund to the birthing workforce retention fund from the bill.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
There is no longer an appropriation from the General Fund to carry out the purposes of the fund.
