SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 181 appropriates $150 thousand from the general fund to Cultural Affairs department
for the purpose of celebrating and preserving traditional northern New Mexico Hispanic and
Mexican folk music. Senate Bill 181 sponsors a statewide tour of traditional and contemporary
musicians in concerts for the elderly, the homeless and children and by sponsoring educational
workshops.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $150 thousand contained in this Senate Bill 181 is a recurring expense to
the General Fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY09
shall revert to the General Fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The intent of the bill is to preserve and celebrate traditional northern New Mexico Mexican and
Hispanic music by producing concerts statewide of touring musicians. The concerts would serve
the elderly, homeless and children. The legislation further asks for the development of
educational workshops for this type of music.
