Synopsis of Bill
House Memorial 38 requests the New Mexico Music Commission to use a less stringent
residency requirement for entrants in the New Mexico cowboy song competition. This Memorial
requests that New Mexico Music Commission open the competition to any person who was born
in New Mexico or who has lived in New Mexico consecutively for the past ten years. This
Memorial requests that copies of this document be transmitted to the New Mexico Music
Commission, the Governor and each country-western radio station in the State.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
This Memorial states the following:

The New Mexico House of Representatives in 2007 passed House Memorial 70
requesting the New Mexico Music Commission to conduct a competition for a New
Mexico cowboy song.
•
The New Mexico Music Commission is conducting a competition for a New Mexico
cowboy song and is receiving entries in the competition.
•
Previously, House Memorial 70 directed that the competition be open to any person who
was born in New Mexico or who has lived in New Mexico consecutively for the past
twenty years.
