Synopsis of Bill

House Joint Memorial 20 requests the New Mexico Legislative Council to direct the appropriate

committee to assess the effect of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s clean

water standards on New Mexico’s capital expenditures for prevention of pollutants and

management of illicit discharges into New Mexico’s water systems. The committee shall report

its findings and recommendations to the New Mexico Legislative Council by January 1, 2009.

Copies of this Memorial shall be transmitted to the members of the New Mexico Legislative

Council.

WHAT WILL BE THE CONSEQUENCES OF NOT ENACTING THIS BILL

The consequences of not enacting this Memorial will impede the appropriate committee from

assessing the effect of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s new clean water

standards on New Mexico’ capital expenditures for prevention of pollutants and management of

illicit discharges into New Mexico’s water systems.
