SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 627 appropriates thirty thousand dollars ($30,000) from the General Fund to Cultural
Affairs Department to contract for a jazz music workshop that provides jazz education programs
for underserved and underrepresented children and communities in New Mexico.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of thirty thousand dollars ($30,000) contained in this bill is a recurring
expense to the General Fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of
Fiscal Year 2009 shall revert to the General Fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES

It is our understanding that this appropriation is intended to support the New Mexico Jazz
Workshop’s 2008 Institute of Music. The funds would provide free professional musical
instruction, instruments and resources for 60 students and to extend jazz education programs into
underserved and underrepresented youth populations and public schools. Students would study
