SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 240, making an Appropriation for Drug Abuse Education and Prevention in Lea
County, appropriates $150.0 thousand from the general fund to DFA for the purpose of drug
abuse education and prevention.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $150.0 thousand contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general
fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY09 shall revert to the
general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
DFA notes that, Lea County has established a community drug alliance program, staffed by
volunteers, to educate and prevent drug abuse county wide. The approach is new to addressing
the drug problem in Lea County and is a long term plan, community based, county wide
approach.
