House Judiciary Committee Amendment 193 strikes the appropriation from the bill.
Synopsis of HJC Amendment
House Judiciary Committee 193 amendment clarifies that the commission shall not interfere with
the discretion or the professional, judgment or advocacy of a public defender office, contractor or
an assigned counsel in the representation of individual cases. It also reduces the appropriation to
$25 thousand.
It strikes in its entirety that the commission will not interfere with the duties of the chief public
defender and strikes language that prohibits t
he chief public defender from serving after January 1,
2009.
